Coast to Coast with Ian Punnett
Audience -- 5 million
PROMO, first half hour...
The sighting of an eagle with the face of a man ... in Malaysia does speak
to the book we're going to talk about later in this hour, a few minutes with one
of the co-authors of Tales of the Cryptids, Mysterious Creatures that May or May
Not Exist, an investigation by Halls, Spears and Young. It's really a
children's book and it's perfect for people who are into cryptozoology who want
to share their love and passion for these animals, these mysterious creatures,
the humanoids, that if you have this book you can send it to either kids or
grand kids. They have, obviously, the chupacabras in there, but I don't think
they have anything about this bizarre story of the man faced eagle, I've never
heard of that before; as opposed I guess to an eagle faced man, like Sam
Donaldson.
INTERVIEW, second half hour
IAN PUNNETT: I'm totally geeked about it, but it could completely blow up
in all of our faces, as could my next few minutes with Roxyanne Young, good
evening Roxyanne.
ROXYANNE YOUNG: Hi Ian, how are you?
IAN PUNNETT: Good. I was going to put you off until later in this hour,
then I found out you were nervous about this whole thing and I didn't want you
to panic and like hang up and run away, so....
ROXYANNE YOUNG: Just a little
IAN PUNNETT: I figure I better get you, and you should be, you sent me like
two copies of the book, and emailed me a bunch about it, so you should be ready.
I think this is a great book. Tales of the Crypids, I just think people got
to know about this, especially if they've got nieces or nephews or grand kids or
their own kids and they want those kids to share in their interest of
cryptozoology, this is the book to introduce it.
ROXYANNE YOUNG: Oh absolutely. It is the only book of it's kind for kids.
There are a lot of books out there that treat crypto subjects one at a time,
you'll find books on UFOs, books on Bigfoot, books on the Loch Ness Monster and
so on, but ours is the only one that has sections on every one of them, and not
just Bigfoot, but all of the Sasquatch creatures around the world and all of the
aquatic cryptids. Loch ness isn't the only lake monster.
IAN PUNNETT: No
ROXYANNE YOUNG: There's Ogo Pogo, there's Storjo, there are lots of others
too. We have a map with their locations all over the world, we've got stories
and information about them, about all the different beasts, we've got interviews
with experts.
IAN PUNNETT: And I like the fact that your grandmother yourself introduced
you to the subject with the, I haven't even heard of this, the Bardin Booger?
What's that?.
ROXYANNE YOUNG: That's right. I'm from a small river town in north Florida
called Palatka, Florida and on the outskirts of Palatka is an even smaller
community called Bardin, it's way out in the woods, or it was when I was growing
up. And my grandmother would tell me stories of when she was little, and one of
the stories she told me was hearing about the Bardin booger, which was this tall
hairy ape-like creature that would come and harass the people at the fish camps
and hunting camps out by Bardin, and it would just captivate me as a little kid
as she was telling me these stories. It just started, I dunno, I guess I was
five or six years old at the time, from there I wanted to learn more and more
and more...read books about Loch Ness and Big Foot and on and on and on,
and...
IAN PUNNETT: Well, I like the work you did with your co-conspirators on
this, Kelly Milner Halls and Rick Spears and I wanted people to know about it.
You can order this anywhere, like Amazon and stuff?
ROXYANNE YOUNG: It's available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com, you can
request it at your local bookstores.
IAN PUNNETT: It's Tales of the Cryptids, Mysterious Creatures that May or
May Not Exist, it's a great gift book on cryptids and hominids and other
creatures so that the next generation can appreciate the same wild and wooly
weird stuff that we grew up loving and we love on the show. Thank you
Roxyanne.
ROXYANNE YOUNG: You're welcome.
IAN PUNNETT: See? You didn't panic, you didn't do anything.
ROXYANNE YOUNG: I didn't. My heart's about to pound out of my chest, but
I'm doing okay. . .
IAN PUNNETT: You did screw it up hardly at all. <laughter> Have a
wonderful evening.
