Roxyanne Young is available for school visits and author talks, too! For more information, please visit her Website at http://www.RoxyanneYoung.com.
"Tales of the Cryptids wowed our audience of Preuss sixth graders with its graphic illustrations, chilling stories, and dramatic 'historical' excerpts. Students’ hands shot up with questions about the possible proof of the existence of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and the FeeJee Mermaid! Roxyanne Young gave an engaging discussion. Our students were more than just fascinated, they were riveted! This book is captivating and convincing, providing an excellent seque into the writing process and what it means to hook your reader at any age! We give it five stars!" ~ Pete Selleck, Sylvia Garcia-Borgo, and Meghan Kaheny (Teachers at The Preuss School UCSD).

Kelly Milner Halls
is the author of over eighteen books for kids, over one thousand
magazine articles and interviews, and the veteran of dozens of school
visits all over the country. To find out how to bring Kelly to your

COMMENTS
Kelly did a great job. I get a little stressed
when an author comes because they can be rather demanding. Kelly was
just the opposite. She even brought her own bottled water. She
interacted well with the students and they loved her fossils. Here is a
comment from our second grade teacher: “I thought Kelly did an awesome
job with our children. My kids loved the non-fiction aspect as
compared with other fiction authors. They were amazed by the models as
well as the authentic fossils and her knowledge was unquestionable.”
Every comment from teachers or students was positive. Kelly met with
grades K-1, 2, 3rd/4th and 5th/6th, about 60 students in all. She
explained how she came to write I Bought a Baby Chicken from a real
experience and encouraged the students to do the same some day. She
answered all questions, even if they weren’t related to her books. She
just knew how to draw them back to her subjects. The students loved
learning about albino animals and dinosaur fossils, of course. I had
the students preview her webpage before she came so they were prepared
for her visit. That idea came from her own website
.
I emailed Kelly that we would like to have her return sometime and do
writing workshops. She did an excellent job with all ages. I sent her a
picture which she put on her website today.
Asking Kelly to come was the right choice.

Kelly,
We are still jazzed about your visit on Tuesday! The students and
staff were inspired and in awe of your knowledge and skills. We hope
to do this every year and maybe we can have you visit again! We're
looking forward to your new books, especially Wild Dogs. Thanks so
much for the craft book on using foam trays. We are also going to
order the stick book! I am attaching the picture of you, Claire, and
the interview girls, Taryn and Glenna. They both have permission for
you to use the photo if you like. All the best to you in your
adventures and thanks again for sharing your inspiring writing.

Kelly,
Everyone was talking about your presentation in the lunch room today.
They loved it. One parent told me the first thing her daughter said
when she walked through the door was, "I touched dinosaur poop today".
And the fact that you e-mailed a student was awesome. Thanks so much!!

Kelly,
You recently visited my 2nd grade son's class in Newport WA. He has
done nothing but talk about the raptor claw he says he can purchase for
$7-10. Please send us the information on how to get one. He has
already saved up enough allowance to purchase it. Thanks for sparking
his interest.

Kelly
worked with 419 children at McDonald. She was was with each group for
45 minutes with and extra 15 minutes if she needed it. During that
time she talked about how she got into writing. She talked a lot about
how a question or an idea is the start of a book. She spent most of
her time on the books Dinosaur Mummies and Albino Animals. She gave
children the information on how she became a writer of non-fiction
books. This seems to be quite different from what I have heard authors
of fiction describe. It was very interesting. She stressed how an
elementary teacher had told her that she could be an author. The kids
and teachers loved that. I thought Kelly did a wonderful job. She was
very prepared and handled the children’s questions easily. You could
tell that she really loves her job and enjoys children as she was
constantly talking to them even when the sessions were over. The
comments that I have received from teachers have been positive. The
children were fascinated with how she got her dinosaur fossils and
artifacts. They loved touching her artifacts and were especially
excited about the dinosaur poop. I have had several parents mention
the dinosaur poop to me the day after their children had a chance to
hear Kelly. Kelly is not someone who only does her session and then
wants her quiet space. She is always open to talking to any and
everyone about her books. She really loves what she is doing. It
shows!
